Mission Viejo waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They strolled past the Trabuco Hills Mustangs with points to spare, taking the game 26-7. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Diablos' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Mustangs are ranked 26th).

Mission Viejo can attribute much of their success to Bailey McNeal, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 30 yards and one score. Those 30 rushing yards gave McNeal a new career-high. A healthy portion of McNeal's aerial production (106 yards to be exact) went to Leah Vanderveen, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Mission Viejo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Emma Eldred, Nora Biornstad, Brooklyn Koedel, and Karlie Franzini picked up one apiece.

Mission Viejo now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Trabuco Hills, they moved to 13-5 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mission Viejo is set to square off against their familiar foe El Toro at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Diablos 12.5, the Chargers 12.1) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Trabuco Hills will challenge rival San Juan Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
