 The Hopkinsville Tigers will look to defend their home field  on Monday against the Caldwell County Tigers at 5:30  p.m. The two teams have allowed few  runs on average, (Hopkinsville: 2.9, Caldwell County: 2.9) so any  runs scored will be well earned.
 Hopkinsville fought the good fight in their extra-innings  match against Christian County  on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Colonels by a score of  5-4. Hopkinsville's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
  JJ Thompson put in work no matter where he played. He  struck out ten batters over  6.1 innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   five  hits. Thompson has been consistent recently: he hasn't  pitched less than six  innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Thompson was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-5 with two  doubles.
 Thompson wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Zach Moss, who  got on base  in three of his five plate appearances with  an  RBI.
 Meanwhile, Caldwell County waltzed into their contest  on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They won by a  run and slipped past the Lakers  4-3.
 Hopkinsville's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Caldwell County, their victory bumped their record up to 17-7.
 Hopkinsville was able to grind out a solid  win over Caldwell County in their previous matchup  back in May of 2021, winning  10-6. Will Hopkinsville repeat their success,  or does  Caldwell County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
