Football Game Preview: Giddings Lonestar Southeast Mustangs vs. Saint Mary's Hall Barons

Giddings Lonestar Southeast hasn't had much luck against Saint Mary's Hall recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mustangs will head out to square off against the Barons at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Giddings Lonestar Southeast's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Faith Academy on Friday. They were dealt a 45-0 defeat at the hands of the Flames. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Flames are ranked 51st).

Meanwhile, Saint Mary's Hall ended up a good deal behind Leakey on Friday and lost 62-43. Despite 81 more yards than the Eagles, the Barons couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Giddings Lonestar Southeast will need to focus on slowing down Bear Mayberry, one of several Saint Mary's Hall players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 298 yards and six TDs, and also rushed for 56 yards. Mayberry is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Saint Mary's Hall's leading receiver Ernest Williams was Mayberry's top target yet again, picking up 116 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Giddings Lonestar Southeast's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Saint Mary's Hall, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Giddings Lonestar Southeast came up short against Saint Mary's Hall in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 12-7. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
