The Grantsville Cowboys will square off against the Stansbury Stallions at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Grantsville comes in on three and Stansbury on four.
Grantsville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Ogden 19-2 on Tuesday. Considering the Cowboys have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hayden Bytheway made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Eden Ressel was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kira Hart, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI.
Grantsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stansbury ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Tooele 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Stallions have posted since May 10, 2024.
Stansbury's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Klairity Vargas, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Maris Hess also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Stansbury's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Grantsville, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Grantsville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Stansbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Grantsville took their victory against Stansbury when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 12-4 score. Do the Cowboys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stallions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
