Softball Game Preview: Brandon Valley Lynx vs. Mitchell Kernels

The Brandon Valley Lynx are taking a road trip to square off against the Mitchell Kernels at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Brandon Valley's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matches.

On Tuesday, Brandon Valley got the win against Yankton by a conclusive 11-1. That's two games straight that the Lynx have won by exactly ten runs.

Gabriel Kriech made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Peyton Amdahl was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Briley Laber also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Brandon Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yankton only posted an OBP of .208.

Meanwhile, Mitchell faced O'Gorman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Kernels came up short against the Knights, falling 13-1. The loss continues a trend for the Kernels in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost four in a row.

Brandon Valley's record now sits at 6-2. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Brandon Valley couldn't quite get it done against Mitchell when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Lynx avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
