Football Recap: Asheville Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Asheville played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Watauga Pioneers and fell 49-7. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Pioneers are ranked 18th).

Tay Williams threw for 62 yards while completing 80% of his passes. Se-Mahj Brown was his top target, picking up 29 receiving yards.

Watauga had a senior duo take command as Cade Keller rushed for 42 yards and one score and Everett Gryder rushed for 43 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Keller showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 69 yards. Nyle Peays got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Asheville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Watauga, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Asheville and Watauga will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Cougars are set to face off against their familiar foe T.C. Roberson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Watauga will challenge rival Freedom at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
