William Blount easily dispatched Baylor on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Chloe Merriman was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Trinity Johnson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Even though they lost, William Blount was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Girls Prep came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Buccaneers. While the Bruisers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Addison Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off only two hits. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Girls Prep got a big performance out of Jayla Gladden, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Calieah Reyes, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Girls Prep pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for William Blount, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. William Blount hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Girls Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
