Basketball Recap: Thomas MacLaren School Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Banning Lewis Academy, Thomas MacLaren School was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 59-51 victory over the Miami-Yoder Buffaloes. The win continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Buffaloes: they've now won three in a row.

It was another big night for Jake Frisbie, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelo Tiggett, who scored 11 points and four steals.

Despite the loss, Miami-Yoder still got an impressive performance from Jel Wallerstedt, who almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine boards. The matchup was Wallerstedt's third in a row with at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Howard, who earned 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

The victory got Thomas MacLaren School back to even at 10-10. As for Miami-Yoder, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Thomas MacLaren School will take on Crowley County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Crowley County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Thomas MacLaren School likes a good challenge. As for Miami-Yoder, they have already played their next match, a 61-36 win against Genoa-Hugo/Karval on the 19th.
