Two dominant backs in Josiah Lucas and Vudrico Roberson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The South Grand Prairie Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Haltom Buffalos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Grand Prairie knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Haltom likes a good challenge.
South Grand Prairie hadn't beaten Martin on the road since September 9, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. South Grand Prairie came out on top against Martin by a score of 34-26. The 34-point effort marked South Grand Prairie's lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
It was another big night for Daylon Brooks, who rushed for 114 yards and two scores on only nine carries, and also threw for 137 yards while completing 72.2% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: South Grand Prairie was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 300 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Haltom's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 30-20 to Bowie. While losing is never fun, the Buffalos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Volunteers are ranked 130th).
South Grand Prairie will have to keep a close watch on Elijah Lewis and Khristopher Parks, a pair of players who had a big impact on Haltom's prior game. Lewis gained 82 total yards and a touchdown, while Parks rushed for 65 yards on only six carries.
South Grand Prairie's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.5 points on average over those games. As for Haltom, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. South Grand Prairie has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 242.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Haltom struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 277.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
