Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Mater Lakes Academy's Winning Streak

After flying high against Sports Leadership & Management last Wednesday, Mater Lakes Academy came back down to earth. The Mater Lakes Academy Bears lost to the Camden Panthers on the road by a 100-81 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 172nd in Florida, while the Panthers are ranked 32nd in New Jersey).

Mater Lakes Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tai Bell, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 boards. The match was Bell's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Khanye Moss, who posted 23 points and three steals.

Mater Lakes Academy moved to 8-13 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Camden, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.

Mater Lakes Academy has already played their next game, a 64-49 win against Crossroad Academy on the 25th. As for Camden, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-55 victory against Windermere Prep on the 25th.
