Baseball Recap: Melrose Takes a Loss

Melrose was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Gateway Christian Warriors, falling 26-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-9 on Friday.

Melrose saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josiah Roybal, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Roybal is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played.

Melrose now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Gateway Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.

Looking ahead, Melrose will look to defend their home field on Monday against Elida at 3:00 p.m. The Buffaloes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Gateway Christian, they will head out to take on Dora at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Coyotes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.64 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
