Basketball Game Preview: Holmes County Blue Devils vs. Jay Royals

The Holmes County Blue Devils will face off against the Jay Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Holmes County is coming into the game hot, having won their last 12 games.

Holmes County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Graceville 64-30. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Bri Adams was her usual excellent self, going 7-for-14 to rack up 20 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. She is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Savannah Goodman, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 17 points.

Holmes County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Jay waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took down the Bobcats 59-45.

Jay found their leader in sophomore Presley Hawthorne, who posted 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Hawthorne a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubreigh Nelson, who earned 12 points and five rebounds.

Holmes County's record now sits at 24-2. As for Jay, their record now sits at 20-3.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Holmes County has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Jay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Holmes County strolled past Jay in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 69-50. Will Holmes County repeat their success, or does Jay have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
