Baseball Recap: Manning Triumphs

Manning proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by six) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Kingstree Blazers, sneaking past 6-5. This was a revenge game for the Monarchs: when they faced off against the Blazers on Tuesday, they had to take a 17-4 loss.

Isaiah Baxter was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Manning is 2-1 when Baxter posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise.

Manning's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-8. As for Kingstree, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manning will welcome Lee Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Stallions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.3 runs per game on average), something the Monarchs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Kingstree, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against East Clarendon at 5:00 p.m. The Wolverines' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Blazers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
