Basketball Recap: Key West Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Key West and Northwestern squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Key West had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Northwestern Bulls, falling 60-21. While losing is never fun, the Conchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 532nd, while the Bulls are ranked 77th).

It was another big night for Myah Newton, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds for Northwestern. Newton is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tayana Dixon, who posted six points in addition to ten boards and three steals.

Key West is on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-20. As for Northwestern, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-4.

Key West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northwestern, they will face off against St. Brendan on Saturday. Northwestern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.
