Football Recap: Wilcox Falls to Valley Christian in First Game of Season

Wilcox had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were dealt a 41-10 defeat at the hands of the Valley Christian Warriors on Friday. The Chargers have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Wilcox lost, don't look at Elijah Vallejo. Despite the final result, he rushed for 80 yards and one TD. The Chargers also got help from Cheney Myles, who showed off his sure hands for 100 receiving yards.

Valley Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ekiah Mclemore, who rushed for 85 yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Mclemore posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Divine Johnson was another key player, rushing for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Wilcox didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 33-20 loss against Archbishop Mitty on the 5th. As for Valley Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 38-29 defeat against Salinas on the 5th.
