Softball Recap: Greenville Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

There's no place like home for Greenville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Hillsboro Hiltoppers on Tuesday. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

Payton White made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Ramzi Stefanisin was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Greenville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillsboro only posted a batting average of .241.

Greenville pushed their record up to 15-4-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Hillsboro, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenville will take on Collinsville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets are facing the Kahoks at the right time seeing as the Kahoks are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Hillsboro, they will challenge Gillespie at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
