Softball Recap: Hamilton County Has No Trouble Against Trico

Hamilton County was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Trico on Saturday. The Foxes blew past the Pioneers 9-1. The Foxes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.

Rayci Phelps was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Addison Kelley and Kelsie Ashcraft did most of the damage at the plate: Kelley went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Ashcraft went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Ashcraft a new career-high. Maddie Birkner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Hamilton County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive games.

Hamilton County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.4 runs over those games. As for Trico, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Hamilton County has already played their next contest, a 7-6 loss against Crab Orchard on the 14th. As for Trico, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-2 victory against Steeleville on the 14th.
