Basketball Recap: Keys Gate Comes Up Short

If Keys Gate was feeling good fresh off their 60-27 takedown of South Dade last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Keys Gate Knights lost 69-45 to the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 118th).

Schoolhouse Prep found their leader in sophomore Lya Gonzalez, who almost dropped a double-double on 34 points and nine boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gonzalez has scored at least a third of Schoolhouse Prep's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalem Preston, who went 6 for 14 en route to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Keys Gate has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Schoolhouse Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Keys Gate will head out to face off against Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Schoolhouse Prep, they will venture away from home to square off against Mater Lakes Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
