Basketball Recap: Wakefield Trojans vs. Tekamah-Herman Tigers

Wakefield's tournament run continued when they took on Tekamah-Herman on Saturday. The Wakefield Trojans were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to the Tekamah-Herman Tigers.

Despite the loss, Wakefield still got an impressive performance from Cael Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds. Johnson is becoming a predictor of Wakefield's success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 5-2 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Jacob Birkley was another key player, putting up seven points along with six assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, Wakefield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tekamah-Herman only pulled down seven offensive boards.

Brody Rogers was his usual excellent self, going 7 of 16 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds for Tekamah-Herman. That's the most assists Rogers has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Oligmueller, who went 6 for 9 to rack up 15 points.

Wakefield's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Tekamah-Herman, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Wakefield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-26 victory against Lyons-Decatur Northeast on the 4th. As for Tekamah-Herman, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 74-31 loss against Pender on the 4th.
