Basketball Game Preview: Sulphur Bluff Bears vs. Saltillo Lions

Sulphur Bluff hasn't had much luck against Saltillo recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Sulphur Bluff Bears will face off against the Saltillo Lions at 7:30 p.m. Sulphur Bluff knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Saltillo likes a good challenge.

Sulphur Bluff saw some tournament action last Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Boles.

Meanwhile, Saltillo had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Hornets out 38-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted against the Hornets since December 6, 2016.

Saltillo pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Sulphur Bluff, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Sulphur Bluff didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Saltillo when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 56-52 victory. Will Sulphur Bluff repeat their success, or does Saltillo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
