Northwest has gone 9-1 against Lumen Christi Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mounties will challenge the Titans at 4:00 p.m.
Northwest fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Columbia Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mounties have suffered since May 2, 2024.
Lucy Bivens (2025) spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Northwest saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ari Good (2025), who went 1-for-4 with one run.
Five must be Lumen Christi Catholic's lucky number: they beat St. Catherine of Siena Academy with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Titans walked away with a 5-0 win over the Athletes. Winning may never get old, but the Titans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
The result came thanks to Ollie Powers's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bree Okoniewski was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Lumen Christi Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Northwest, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northwest has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lumen Christi Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Northwest took their win against Lumen Christi Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 21-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mounties since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
