Basketball Recap: East Greenwich Comes Up Short

After flying high against Tiverton last Wednesday, East Greenwich came back down to earth. The East Greenwich Avengers fell just short of the Stonington Bears by a score of 62-60 on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Avengers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 30th in Rhode Island, while the Bears are ranked 87th in Connecticut).

When it comes to explaining why East Greenwich lost, don't look at Rees Maccarone. Despite the final result, he posted 21 points. The game was Maccarone's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dante Desmarais, who scored 13 points.

East Greenwich's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Stonington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.

East Greenwich will venture away from home to square off against Rogers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Greenwich is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season. As for Stonington, they will welcome Ledyard at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
