Recap: Cardinal Newman Cardinals vs. Heathwood Hall Episcopal Highlanders
The Cardinal Newman Cardinals won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were dealt a 84-29 loss at the hands of Heathwood Hall Episcopal. Cardinal Newman was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-12.
Despite the defeat, Cardinal Newman saw an underclassman step up: Teonna Draughn scored 18 points along with three steals. Ayana Reyes was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Lauren Jacobs continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, dropping a double-double on 47 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jacobs has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sabreya Monsanto, who dropped a triple-double on 13 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals.
Cardinal Newman has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Cardinal Newman will head out on the road to face off against Augusta Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Augusta Christian's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so Cardinal Newman's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, they will be playing at home against Hammond at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hammond is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
