Basketball Recap: Southeast Skates Past IMG Academy Silver with Ease

Southeast picked up another tournament win on Monday. They claimed a resounding 70-21 victory over the IMG Academy Silver Ascenders. Given the Seminoles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Ascenders are ranked 614th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southeast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tavares Powell led the charge by going 8 for 9 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Powell a new career-high in boards. Keith Potter was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Southeast's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for IMG Academy Silver, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Southeast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Parrish Community at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Parrish Community will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Southeast surely won't give up without a fight. As for IMG Academy Silver, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Southland Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
