Baseball Game Preview: Charleston Catholic Irish vs. Riverside Warriors

The Charleston Catholic Irish will face off against the Riverside Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Charleston Catholic has eight straight victories, Riverside has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Charleston Catholic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Scott, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Charleston Catholic was ranked tenth). The Irish beat the Skyhawks on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2.

Meanwhile, Riverside came up short against St. Albans on Tuesday, falling 12-2.

Riverside saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron George, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was George's first of the season.

Charleston Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.

Charleston Catholic took their win against Riverside in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Irish repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
