Soccer Recap: Newton Takes a Loss

After flying high against Salina Central last Tuesday, Newton came back down to earth. The Railroaders fell just short of the South Cougars by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Newton came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas soccer rankings (they are ranked fifth, while South are ranked 26th).

The loss snapped Newton's winning streak at three matches and leaves them with a 11-2 record. As for South, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Newton will square off against Maize South on Thursday. As for South, they will challenge Buhler on Thursday. Buhler will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more goals each contest than the last.
