Baseball Game Preview: Roxana Shells vs. Columbia Eagles

The Roxana Shells will square off against the Columbia Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Roxana is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

If Roxana beats Columbia with seven runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Shells sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Heyworth on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Shells have posted since March 21st.

Bradley Herrin looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dalton Carriker, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Davis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Columbia scored first but ultimately less than Red Bud in their game on Monday. They fell just short of the Musketeers by a score of 10-8.

Roxana's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Roxana couldn't quite finish off Columbia when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Shells avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
