Volleyball Game Preview: Mission Bay Buccaneers vs. Mira Mesa Marauders

The Mission Bay Buccaneers will head out to take on the Mira Mesa Marauders at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mission Bay has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Mira Mesa will arrive with four straight victories.

Mission Bay is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since April 23, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 3-0 to University City.

Mission Bay might've come up short, but they didn't make it easy on University City: every set was decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-23, 25-23.

Despite the defeat, Mission Bay saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zeth Abelman had 14 digs and two aces. Abelman has been hot recently, having posted 14 or more digs the last four times he's played. Jack Taylor also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.

Meanwhile, Mira Mesa got the win against High Tech SD on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0.

Mira Mesa never let High Tech SD on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-23.

Mira Mesa's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. As for Mission Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

Mission Bay couldn't quite get it done against Mira Mesa when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 3-1. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
