Baseball Game Preview: Brighton Bulldogs vs. Vista PEAK Prep Bison

The Brighton Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Vista PEAK Prep Bison at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Vista PEAK Prep took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Brighton, who comes in off a win.

In Thursday's Canine Competition, Brighton prevailed. They blew past Westminster 11-2 on Thursday.

Blake George made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Nick Griffin and Austin Sickler did most of the damage at the plate: Griffin went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Sickler went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Griffin is becoming a predictor of Brighton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Blake Robinson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.

Meanwhile, Vista PEAK Prep came up short against Northfield on Tuesday and fell 4-1. The Bison have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Vista PEAK Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Brancato, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Vista PEAK Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Brighton, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-6.

Brighton skirted past Vista PEAK Prep 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
