Baseball Recap: Middletown Comes Up Short

Middletown extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Mason Comets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Middies of the 4-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Mason, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Mason's part, Jaden Bakhit looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Bakhit has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Davies, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Cox, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

While Middletown had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
