Basketball Recap: Marshall Piles Up the Points Against June Jordan School of Equity

Marshall was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against June Jordan School of Equity on Tuesday. The Marshall Phoenix breezed past the June Jordan School of Equity Jaguars to the tune of 80-27. The Phoenix have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 27 points or more this season.

Marshall's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Martel Peters led the charge by going 9-for-20 en route to 18 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Peters is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcel Anderson, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points in addition to seven assists and six steals.

Marshall smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why June Jordan School of Equity lost, don't look at Jacob Fitch. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points.

Marshall has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. June Jordan School of Equity's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-11.

Marshall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-24 loss against Lincoln on the 20th. June Jordan School of Equity does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
