Baseball Game Preview: Maxwell Wildcats vs. Holdrege Dusters

The Maxwell Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Holdrege Dusters at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maxwell will be strutting in after a win while Holdrege will be coming in after a defeat.

Maxwell barely beat Sedgwick County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 13-4 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Breckyn Collins made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxon Braithwait, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Jaiven Wescoat, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Holdrege's offense. They came up short against Central City/Centura on Friday, falling 10-0.

Holdrege dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Maxwell, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Maxwell's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Holdrege, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Maxwell continue to outrun the ball?
