Softball Game Preview: Estancia Bears vs. McCurdy Bobcats

Estancia is 9-1 against McCurdy since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Estancia Bears will take on the McCurdy Bobcats at 11:00 a.m. Estancia will be strutting in after a victory while McCurdy will be coming in after a defeat.

While Bears fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. They came out on top against Moriarty by a score of 5-2 on Thursday.

Jhenna Valencia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 19 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Looper, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucia Chavez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, McCurdy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 15-3 to Santa Fe Indian.

Karina Archuleta made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3.

Estancia took their win against McCurdy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Estancia since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
