Softball Recap: Bayfront Charter Drops Highest Score of Season Against San Diego Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bayfront Charter). Everything went their way against the San Diego Academy Cavaliers on Tuesday as they made off with a 20-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Sharks needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Ariana Carbajal was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Gabriella Loera and Anahi Del Rosario did most of the damage at the plate: Loera got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Del Rosario got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Loera a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Bayfront Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Bayfront Charter's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-14. As for San Diego Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bayfront Charter will take on Bonsall at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Legionnaires have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for San Diego Academy, they will square off against Liberty Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
