Soccer Game Preview: El Modena vs. Sonora

The El Modena Vanguards will take on the Sonora Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. El Modena's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

El Modena is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Cypress just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Centurions by a score of 3-2. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vanguards came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Centurions are ranked 823rd).

Meanwhile, Sonora entered their match against Pacifica on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Sonora lost 3-0 to Pacifica. The contest was a close 1-0 at the break, but unfortunately for the Raiders it sure didn't stay that way.

El Modena's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Sonora, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3-3.
