Recap: Quitman Panthers vs. Newton Tigers
The Newton Tigers typically have all the answers at home, but on Saturday the Quitman Panthers proved too difficult a challenge. They took down the Tigers 58-43. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Quitman.
Quitman was led to victory by AUDRIANA HARRIS and KIARRA THOMPSON. HARRIS dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, while THOMPSON scored 21 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points THOMPSON has scored all season. AIYANNA DEAR was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Quitman pushed their record up to 16-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Newton, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-4.
Quitman will head out on the road to challenge Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Quitman is ranked 16th). As for Newton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake and Newton are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
