Baseball Recap: East Alton-Wood River Wins Going Away Against Dupo

East Alton-Wood River barely beat Dupo the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Oilers were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Tigers on Wednesday. The Oilers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

Drake Champlin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Caleb Handler was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for East Alton-Wood River: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-17 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Barboza, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

East Alton-Wood River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

With the victory, East Alton-Wood River broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-17. As for Dupo, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

East Alton-Wood River wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-0 defeat against Marquette Catholic on the 9th. As for Dupo, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-5 loss against Valmeyer on the 9th.
