Baseball Game Preview: Wood Wildcats vs. Armijo Royals

The Wood Wildcats will head out to face off against the Armijo Royals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

If Wood beats Armijo with 14 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went the Wildcats' way against Sacramento on Thursday as they made off with a 14-3 win. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Armijo). They put the hurt on Johnson with a sharp 20-3 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Royals.

Samuel Fierro was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Armijo let Aiden Espinoza and Kevin Marks run wild. Espinoza scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Marks scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Marks has posted since back in March. Gabe Amaya Hall was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Armijo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Wood's record is now 6-9. As for Armijo, their record now sits at 10-6-1.
