Basketball Recap: Owen Valley Falls Despite Big Games from Joey Richardson and Donavin Newby

Owen Valley lost against Shakamak back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Owen Valley Patriots fell 53-46 to the Shakamak Lakers. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Owen Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Donavin Newby, who went 7-for-14 en route to 15 points, and Joey Richardson, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 15 points. The dominant performance gave Richardson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Hall, who posted four points and six rebounds.

Owen Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-20. As for Shakamak, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Owen Valley and Shakamak could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Owen Valley will face off against Cascade at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 196 places (370 vs. 174). Owen Valley has given up an average of 57.4 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Similarly, Shakamak (ranked 248th) will meet Bloomfield (ranked 119th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
