Game recap: La Jolla leaps out of the gate in victory over University City

La Jolla (Calif.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 56-7 win over University City (San Diego, Calif.).

The Vikings scored 14 points in the first quarter. La Jolla scored on a touchdown run and a rushing touchdown.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, LJ led 28-7 at the half.

The Vikings expanded their lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. La Jolla scored three times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.

Abraham Jimenez played well for the Centurions. The senior running back caught one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.

Sergio Ortiz was the top performer for LJ. The junior kicked one extra point. He has now scored zero touchdowns on the season.



University City's lone touchdown came on a 75-yard pass from Jack Minnick to Jimenez in the second quarter.

The Vikings came in allowing an average of 26.2 points per game this season. La Jolla held firm on the defensive front, and kept UC well below the 31.0 points it had been averaging per game.

In a Western game next week La Jolla (2-4) takes on Point Loma, and University City (2-4) will go up against Crawford in a Central game.
