Softball Recap: Monroe Redhawks vs. Forest Hills Yellow Jackets

Sadly, Monroe is still looking for their first win of the season after nine matchups. They fell victim to a tough 22-0 loss at the hands of the Forest Hills Yellow Jackets on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Monroe of the 17-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Monroe saw one different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katherine Rivera, who went 1-for-1 with a stolen base.

On Forest Hills' side, Haylee Trull made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Trull was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and a triple.

In other batting news, Forest Hills got a massive performance out of Dakota Slack, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Horne, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Monroe's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Forest Hills, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-11.

Monroe will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Piedmont at 4:30 p.m. on April 9th. As for Forest Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlotte Country Day School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Forest Hills is out to stop a nine-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
