Basketball Recap: Garner Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Aniyah Williams and Sumayah Jones

Garner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 74-52 to the Corinth Holders Pirates. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 61-41 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Garner's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sumayah Jones, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards, and Aniyah Williams, who went 9-for-18 to rack up 21 points and five assists. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last nine games she's played.

Leading Corinth Holders to victory were Darla Lee and Jada Vanderhorst. Lee went 14-for-27 on her way to 40 points and five rebounds, while Vanderhorst dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Lee has scored at least a third of Corinth Holders' points. Another player making a difference was Lexi Marquis, who posted seven points.

Garner's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Corinth Holders, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Corinth Holders beat Garner by a score of 53-52 on Friday.
