Basketball Recap: DME Academy Regional Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Summer Wilson and Bianca Niegreios

DME Academy Regional and Montverde Academy Gold squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but DME Academy Regional had to settle for second. They took a hard 66-48 fall against the Montverde Academy Gold Eagles. While losing is never fun, DME Academy Regional can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Montverde Academy Gold is ranked 31st).

Despite the defeat, DME Academy Regional had strong showings from Bianca Niegreios, who went 5-for-10 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists, and Summer Wilson, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 14 points. The dominant performance gave Niegreios a new career-high in boards. Shantell Wilks was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, DME Academy Regional smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

DME Academy Regional's loss dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Montverde Academy Gold, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

As of now, neither DME Academy Regional nor Montverde Academy Gold have any future games scheduled.
