Baseball Recap: Waverly Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Waverly had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They skirted past the Gretna East Griffins 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Griffins last Friday, they had to take a 5-0 defeat.

Brennan Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Waverly's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zach McElhose, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Waverly's record is now 22-9. As for Gretna East, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-10.

As of now, neither Waverly nor the Griffins have any future games scheduled.
