Basketball Recap: Piedmont Academy Comes Up Short

Piedmont Academy lost against Edmund Burke Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to the Spartans.

Despite the defeat, Piedmont Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sarah Ellen Stroud posted 24 points and six assists. Anslyn Burrell was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Edmund Burke Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bella Williams led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Those 18 points gave Williams a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leila Eastmead, who had 14 points and six boards.

Piedmont Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Edmund Burke Academy, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Piedmont Academy will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Westfield School at 6:00 p.m. on December 4. As for Edmund Burke Academy, they will challenge Jenkins County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
