Hoover (Ala.) didn't let up as Saturday's game came to a close, scoring 14 in the fourth quarter to seal a 31-0 victory over Opelika (Ala.).
The Buccaneers were up 14-0 at the half after taking the lead on a
Calen Campbell touchdown run in the first quarter.
Hoover expanded its lead to 17 points entering the fourth quarter. HHS scored once in the quarter on a field goal by
Hunter Schmith.
The loss snapped the Bulldogs' 4-game winning streak.
The Buccaneers' most effective player was Campbell. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 16 touchdowns on the season.
Led by
Marlon Humphrey, Hoover had given up an average of 9.5 points prior to the contest. The zero points that Opelika ended with were well below its average of 25.1 coming into the game. OHS came in allowing just 16.6 points per game this season. The Bulldogs struggled against HHS's offense, which entered the game scoring 33.0 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Opelika, which notched a 35-21 victory over Carver in its previous outing.
In its next matchup Opelika (10-5) will take on Hoover in a playoff game. The Buccaneers enter the contest having posted a 15-0.
