Basketball Recap: Mountain Ridge Comes Up Short

Mountain Ridge lost against Corner Canyon back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mountain Ridge Sentinels fell 78-68 to the Corner Canyon Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Sentinels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Chargers are ranked eighth).

When it comes to explaining why Mountain Ridge lost, don't look at Will Lindsay. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Lindsay has been hot, having posted 18 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Landon Blackwell, who posted 12 points.

Corner Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Noah Bendinger led the charge by putting up 18 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Bendinger a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillon Roberts, who went 6 for 10 en route to 14 points and three steals.

Mountain Ridge has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Corner Canyon, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Mountain Ridge will square off against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Ridge is facing Riverton at the right time seeing as Riverton is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Corner Canyon, they will take on Herriman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Herriman will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something Corner Canyon surely won't give up without a fight.
