Basketball Game Preview: Courtland Cougars vs. Chancellor Chargers

Courtland hasn't had much luck against Chancellor recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Courtland Cougars will take on the Chancellor Chargers at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Courtland didn't have too much trouble with King George as they won 54-36.

Courtland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addison Schalkofski, who posted 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Those 16 points gave Schalkofski a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Airyana Maze, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 17 points and three steals.

Courtland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Chancellor waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cyclones 52-21. 52 seems to be a good number for the Chargers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Courtland's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Chancellor, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Courtland was taken down by Chancellor 53-20 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Courtland, Kendall Scott (who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points along with seven assists and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
