Football Game Preview: Payson Lions vs. Wasatch Wasps

Payson hasn't had much luck against Wasatch recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lions will host the Wasps at 7:00 p.m. Payson has given up an average of 40.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Payson is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Spanish Fork on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Lions came up short against the Dons, falling 42-20. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.

Despite the loss, Payson saw an underclassman step up: freshman Hayden Jarvis rushed for 102 yards and one TD, and also picked up 97 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Wasatch was just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 21-20 to Pleasant Grove.

Payson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Wasatch, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Payson was dealt a bruising 42-7 loss at the hands of Wasatch when the teams last played back in October of 2019. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Lions were down 42-0.
