Basketball Game Preview: Lewis County Lions vs. Russell Red Devils

Lewis County is 2-8 against Russell since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lewis County Lions will welcome the Russell Red Devils at 7:30 p.m.

Last Friday, Lewis County came up short against Elliott County and fell 58-50.

Meanwhile, Russell came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Comets as they made off with a 60-37 win.

Russell found their leader in freshman Ryder Burgess, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burgess has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Cordial, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 11 points and eight boards.

Russell's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Lewis County, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Lewis County suffered a grim 62-37 defeat to Russell when the teams last played on January 3rd. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Russell's Gabe Pridemore, who went 9 for 11 en route to 22 points.
